To the Human Race:
I hate you and hope you all die. You look at your starving neighbour and keep eating thanking God it’s not you, you look your brothers and sisters in the eye and kill them where they stand, you shit all over the earth taking everything expecting more caring little about the damage, you turn your eyes away from the pain of others and block your ears to the sound of their screams hiding behind pathetic excuses, you love the money in your pocket more than anything else, more than the children, the children you abuse simply with your neglect. Money is your love, money is your solace, money is your God.
Wow, Emily! Don’t you think this is a little harsh but you know what it is so true about everything you wrote about in this blog. I’m impressed! Man, I wish I could come up with good poems but I don’t have a creative mind. :p
You do so! It definitely is harsh, I was just watching the news and was completely overwhelmed with all the destruction that we do and I needed to get my frustration out!
I agree, yeah its harsh, but we dont realize how we destruct everything.
Everythings about money.
Getting an education you need money
to buy food for your family you need money
to buy a house you need money
to provide care for your family you need money
Em you are such an amazing writer! i know you will do awesome in Nova Scotia!
It’s very true, and it is overwhelming…but that’s a good thing. If we never become overwhelmed, it means that we’re sensitized. Although it’s sad that we are like that. I’m not going to talk about how there is hope in the world, and not everyone is like that, because we all know it, but I hope that it will be enough to inspire you to do something about it. Sometimes I think our, as wealthy citizens, worst enemy is indifference.
Dear Emily,
I don’t think you quite understand the scope of what you are asking. The world is really, really big. Though most of us would like to see the world be a nice clean place, it’s just so much easier to exploit it for our latest extreme political goals or our own monetary gain. As for money being our God… That’s not quite true. We are our own gods. We deserve it all, no?
Love,
The human race.
Dear Emily,
Please read a book called ‘Fast Food Nation’ by Eric Schlosser, it will confirm your convictions in this area. Case in point: Kenny. Kenny was an abused teenager who did not get much schooling and ran away to live on his own. Enter: Monfort Meat Packing Company. While trying to help he hurt his back. The company’s doctors said it was just a pulled muscle, and he was put on some light duty after a couple days of rest. Another doctor told him it was a herniated disc (much worse) and the subsequent weeks and stress broke apart Kenny’s marriage and marred his back. But it didn’t stop there. Over 16 years Kenny kept working at the plant, doing what they asked him because he was loyal and a good guy. He even saved another man’s life. But over those 16 years, Monfort MPC practically threw one injury at him after another. At one time they asked him, after a major spill, to clean it up since some of the maintainance refused to do it. They usually use chlorine, a very dangerous chemical, and usually wear gasmasks, suits, gloves, etc. Kenny? Oh, his supervisor only gave him a paper mask which quickly dissolved. Kenny was sent to the hospital with burnt lungs and blisters covering his body. It took him a long time to recover, but he kept coming back! After one injury which put him in the hospital, he couldn’t figure out why the worker compensation cheques weren’t cashing. He tried to call the company several times and finally a sympathetic employee was able to tell him that he had been fired a while ago. Nobody had called him, nobody had written him. After being the most loyal and dedicated worker for the plant for 16 years, Kenny had been fired while in a hospital recovering from injuries caused by the plant, and nobody had even told him. And Monfort Meat Packing Company? Still gaining billions of dollars each year and shafting workers up the ass. Sometimes more literally than we think. Oh, and, through ConAgra (their parent company) they supply meat to some of our most common fast food restaurant (either McDonald’s or Burger King) and provide french fries to all McDonald’s retaurants.
